About the PCSD Orchestra Program:
The PCSD Orchestra Program started in 2015, beginning in Grade 3 at Oakside Elementary School and has now expanded to Hillcrest Elementary School for Grades 4 and 5 and PKMS for Grades 6 and 7. We currently have almost 200 students in our Orchestra program, playing violin, viola, cello, and double bass (bass is only taught at PKMS).
At Oakside, students audition at the end of Grade 2 and 40 students are selected for the program, which begins in Grade 3. Students who are selected for the program are given weekly small group "pull-out" lessons on Fridays. On half-days, student have lessons in a small orchestra setting. The full Oakside Orchestra rehearses before concerts. Our orchestra performs in the Music in Our Schools Month concert in March and in our Oakside Grade 3 Spring Concert in May.
